the bait room

Having worked in Japan in the early 90's, a chance encounter enabled me to spend a good deal of time with a master Koi breeder. As a young angler and would be bait specialist I learnt how to exploit the inquistive nature of carp with regards to feed. Taking that knowledge and applying it to traditional base mix additives with some not so traditional allows me to offer a hookbait that’s unique by it’s very complexity alone, brace that with passion and meticulous attention to detail and you are left with something quite exceptional.

The Bait Room hookbaits are packed with the finest Additives, Flavours, Hydrolysed feed compounds and Amino Acids currently available. Considerable effort has gone in to searching out the very best premium feed stimulants, palatants, organic acids and sweeteners thus making certain our portfolio of attraction is diverse and unparalleled. Every recipe has been carefully crafted over many years, the additives and attractors are loaded to a level where any more would impair the very structure of the hookbait... And if that's not enough, every cooked batch is then subjected to a lengthy curing process involving re-hydration with our own dedicated liquors.

Seasonal Guide 🌱☀️🍁❄️

There are no rules, all of these baits will and have caught year round. This guide is based purely on the following:

  • Seasonal variations in lake PH,
  • Seasonal effectiveness of singles
  • Fat content
  • Impirical data.

Pop Ups

The backbone of our pop ups is our base mix, a super buoyant modern derivative of an old school recipe... containing Calcium & Sodium Casienate, Micellar, Acid & Rennet Casein, TruSoy FFHT, Egg Albumin, Whole Egg Powder, Blood Plasma, Lamlac and Lactalbumin. For extra buoyancy, I favour a human food grade ingredient over cork, microspheres or silicon, hard to handle but it's buoyancy is off the scale and so much safer.

The 13mm can happily accommodate size Ronnie Rigs/Combi's and require approx 0.3g of putty (ESP small balance bead or BB shot) to balance the rig.

The 15mm are better suited to HSR's or larger hook sizes, long stay (+36 hours), or deep water and require approx. 0.6g of putty (ESP large balance bead/AB shot) to counter balance.

Every batch of Pop Ups is tested for +24hrs using ESP large (0.6g) balance beads and I recommend adding the counter balance to the boom section, not the hook.

Wafters

The majority of wafters on the market are nothing more than slow sinking pop ups that are far too buoyant or a rather ugly blend of cork dust and base mix. We produce properly balanced baits that settle and hover just above the bottom, being sunk only by the weight of the hook. No cork dust here, just old skool base mix ingredients and additives. All our wafters are steamed at amino safe temperatures and buoyancy checked before going on sale. Why barrels only ?.. simple, whilst testing they totally outperformed the rounds at a ratio of around 9:1 with a text book hook hold every time.
